ENVELOPE PUNCH UP
A redesign of the classic Envelope Punch Board for We R Makers, paired with a companion online calculator. The tool shrinks to roughly half its original footprint and combines a scoring guide, notch punch, and corner punch into a single body, while the calculator makes custom envelopes and liners possible in nearly any size. Patent pending.
(CHALLENGE)
The original Envelope Punch Board worked well, but it took up a lot of desk space for a task most crafters only do occasionally. Its printed sizing chart also limited users to preset dimensions, so anything non-standard meant guessing. The goal was to cut the footprint without cutting capability, and to make custom sizing something a user could look up instead of work out by trial and error.
(OUTCOME)
I consolidated the score guide, notch punch, and rounded-corner punch into one compact housing, with a lift tab and an angled alignment edge that position the paper for each of the four sides. I also designed the Envelope Punch Up Calculator, an online tool reached through a QR code printed on the board, which returns the exact paper size, liner size, and starting score line for any card dimension. Designing the tool and calculator together moved the sizing math off the hardware entirely, which opened up box envelopes, liners, and non-standard card sizes without adding a single part.
